Adam Daniel Battles

Adam Daniel Battles of Kingston, NH died on December 9th, 2022 at the age of 36 from natural causes.  He was born on February 9, 1986, in Newburyport, MA.  Adam was the son of Thomas A. Battles and Ing-Mari Bahr. He grew up in Kingston, New Hampshire, and attended Sanborn Regional High School. He went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Health Administration. He lived in Barcelona and Prague over the past six years working in logistics before settling in the Portland, ME Area.  He held positions primarily in health care in the United States. Adam was working as a Program Coordinator at Maine Health at the time of his death.

Adam was a gentle giant with a boyish quality for embracing life.  He was a gifted communicator.  He charmed you with his humor and relaxed manner.  He would light up a room with his positive personality. He had a mindset that all experiences had a “teachable moment.”  His friends in recovery will tell you he was always checking in on them.  He was known for giving a person in need the little money he had in his pocket.  Adam always considered himself very fortunate for his loving and supportive family. He was reserved about his struggles, but he was committed to overcoming them.

Adam loved kids, probably because he was a kid at heart.  Early in his career, he worked with intensive needs students and later with students with emotional struggles.  It was impressive to watch this large man, standing at 6 foot 4, holding the hand of a kindergarten student while they walked to class. Those tender moments encapsulated the person that he was.  He truly was the protector of the meek.

Adam was always the host of any family get-together.  He was so kind and attentive to the needs of others.  He was usually the chef.  He would tantalize their palates with his unique pairings of food, always cooking more than enough. We will always set a plate at the table in remembrance of him.  We have been blessed to have enjoyed thirty-six years with Adam.

Adam is survived by his mother, Ing-Mari Bahr, and her companion Buck Lovern, his father, Thomas Battles and his wife Michele Chadburn; his grandmother, Birgit Bahr; his sister, Tiffany Battles LeBlanc, her husband Ian and his niece Freya, as well as, many aunts, uncles, and cousins in both Sweden and the United States.

A Celebration of Life event will be held in August, details will be provided separately. Send an email to Thomasbattles@gmail.com and we will notify you of the date and place.
