Marissa is a native of Maine and grew up in Gardiner, a small town just shy of the capital. After a life full of missteps and laughter, she decided to move to Portland with her son and quickly started working at music venues in the city. Returning to college was a dream of hers, and at age 33, she enrolled again in college as a human services major. Armed with a human services degree, a great sense of humor and high threshold for caffeine, she started working as a full-time drug and alcohol counselor at Pine Tree Recovery Center in Portland. Her lived experience as a family member of loved ones that are in recovery, and some that are not, has given her the determination to help all that come under her care to show them that they are loved, and give the families the understanding and compassion that they need to continue fighting the good fight.
Marissa currently resides in Poland, Maine with her husband Chris, her son Bear and an incredibly mean cat named Pepe. After receiving her graduate degree in Public Health in the fall, Marissa plans on furthering her reach of advocacy and activism, and continuing to advocate for people who may not be able to advocate for themselves.
